Long time no blog. Work has been overwhelming recently and I just havent had time. Also, over the last several weeks, we’ve been upgrading the bedroom. The pine bedframe, bedside cabinets and chest of drawers went through Bargain Pages a couple of months ago – the people originally just wanting the bedframe but then found we’d got others for sale too and took the lot ! I need to thank Chez and her mom immensely for doing what’s been done. Whilst I did an element of the destruction (mainly the wardrobe and curtain rail etc), Chez and her mom were the driving force behind the changes
We replaced the bedframe with an Argos reject (at a third of the price) so Chez started to get the chocolate effect she wanted. Then it was a case of deciding on wallpaper. As seems to be the case everywhere at the moment, you can’t get “normal” wallpaper – its all bold and brash for feature walls, with the other walls just being painted, so we got some samples and put them up on the wall.

First job was to take the wardrobe doors down, take the tracks off the ceiling and floor and get all the clothes onto temporary clothes rails (kindly lent by my brother)

Now I have to admit, that I’m a bit of a hoarder (I blame my dad for that!). Why chuck something away if you might need it again – so consequently I have a fair amount of clothes. I buy new stuff to replace old stuff then don’t chuck the old stuff ! Chez has often commented that whilst women normally get blamed for having loads of clothes and men get relegated to a drawer in the corner of the bedroom, its probably 70-30 in my favour of clothes. Consequently, because we are a bit short of space in the house in general, the clothes stayed in the bedroom while we were doing the destructive work….

Now came the stripping. Ive been in the house for 18 years (in fact 18 years today) and other than repainting, I don’t think the wallpaper has ever been taken down so much of the glue had worn off and some pieces came off in their entirety. Look what was beneath it though. I know tastes change over the years but imagine a whole bedroom done like this ?

and, after my mother in law put the wallpaper up and painted the ceiling while we were on holiday, the purchase of some brown furniture to go with the “chocolate and green” theme, it now looks like this
