Rock on ebay

Ive never been a major ebayer. Friends buy and sell things and one friend even runs her business over ebay but i’ve only bought a couple of minor things and sold a couple of minor things in the 5 years that i’ve had an account.

Given my mobile phone issues of late I decided to jettison the idea of a new mobile and go for a second hand one instead. Not only saving masses of money but also meaning I can get a sim only, 1 month rolling contract, giving me the best freedom to upgrade later

I finally decided on the Nokia 5800 – it had all the features I needed – MS Exchange syncing, SatNav, MP3 playing and podcasting and had been out for nearly 12 months so had plenty of good reviews. A new one costs around £220 (compared with around £500+ for a blackberry and even more for an iphone). eBay had them selling for around £150 but checking when the auction ended meant that I got one early on a saturday morning for £113. It wasnt quite the “excellent condition” it was advertised at (does any eBayer advertise it correctly?) as it had a defect on the screen but a £35 discount from the seller allows me to replace the screen if I decide to. Coupled with passing my K850i to someone like envirophone, it means the phone has cost me a mere £40 in real terms. With a £15 rolling month contract giving minutes and texts, thats an amazing saving over 12 or 18 months – without being tied to a 12 or 18 month contract.

Well chuffed
