When I was around 16 I started taking omeprazole &#8211; a so called proton pump inhibitor. .. basically helps to cut down gastric acid in the stomach.\u00a0 Around the age of 19 I started having magnesium deficiency and by 25 I had a central line &#8211; a tube in my chest going into the main vein in the heart. I now connect to the drip every other day. Because of the tube I&#8217;ve had two blood clots in the lung so I also take anti blood clot tablets. <\/p>\n<p>Recent research from the US FDA has linked omeprazole and similar drugs to magnesium deficiency.\u00a0 Now the plan is to tail off my omeprazole.\u00a0\u00a0 This hasn&#8217;t been discussed with the docs yet but I&#8217;ve had a thought. If, without omeprazole my magnesium is OK I might be able to cut back or stop the magnesium infusions over time. This might result in the line coming out eventually.\u00a0 This would mean I could stop the blood clot tablets and the regular blood tests.
